Wolves vs Liverpool Premier League

Friday December 21, 20:00

The Premier League weekend round of action gets underway on Friday night as two in-form sides go head-to-head with Wolverhampton Wanderers hosting league leaders Liverpool. The visitors are favourites to win in a game which will test their title credentials.

Both these sides go into this game in excellent form; Liverpool have won six Premier League games in succession while Wolves have won each of their last three.

The home side are dangerous opponents for any side – they have already taken points off both Manchester City and Manchester United, while they also drew at Arsenal and defeated Chelsea at home.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are also in a strong run of form – they have won three matches in a row and have climbed to seventh in the Premier League standings.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League, unbeaten through their opening 17 matches and winning 14. They currently sit one point clear of Manchester City.

The visitors will be favourites to make it seven league victories in succession but will find this to be one of their toughest assignments of the season.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it will be far from comfortable – a 1-1 draw is the likely result between two sides who are used to winning.

Betting Tips

Wolves have lost just one of the five matches they have played against sides above them in the table – and that was an unfortunate 3-2 loss at home to Tottenham. They have a formula for frustrating big teams, holding their own defensively whilst putting them under pressure. Their results against City, United, Arsenal and Chelsea were no flukes – they will be hopeful of at least a draw in this match.

Linked into the previous bet, Wolves have already held three of the top six to 1-1 draws this season, while they scored twice against both Chelsea and Spurs. Being on a Friday night should give the hosts more of an advantage – this will likely be a scoring draw with this among the best online betting odds for this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Head to Head

Wolves stunned Liverpool 2-1 in the FA Cup in a Fourth Round match back in January 2017 but the last league meeting between the two saw the Merseyside club run out 3-0 victors at Molineux in January 2012 – the exact same scoreline when they won in January 2011.

  • Liverpool are now the only side undefeated in this season’s Premier League after Manchester City lost at Chelsea earlier this month.
  • Liverpool have the strongest defensive record in the division (seven goals conceded) while Wolves (19) have the strongest defensive record outside the top four.
  • Liverpool have dropped just four points from their seven games on the road to date this campaign while Wolves have the 10th strongest home record with four wins and 14 points from nine games.
  • A Wolves victory would see them (temporarily at least) leapfrog Manchester United into the top six of the Premier League.
