The English Premier League returns this weekend with a London derby between West Ham and Tottenham on Saturday afternoon one of the standout games of the weekend.

Both of these sides have struggled for form this season but both enter this fixture with respectable points tallies to date.

Tottenham have won six of their eight games thus far despite consecutive defeats to Watford and Liverpool recently, and lie fifth in the standings.

After losing their opening four matches, West Ham earned an impressive seven points from three games against Everton, Chelsea and Manchester United before a loss at Brighton.

This is an important match for both teams and not just for local bragging rights. Spurs are trying to keep pace with the league’s top four – although a victory could temporarily take them top if results go their way elsewhere – while the Hammers are just three places above the relegation zone. A 1-1 draw appears to be a likely outcome.

Betting Tips

These games often are tight, tense affairs with few goals in them. Three of the last six meetings have produced fewer than three goals in that timeframe, no side has won the game by more than a goal. West Ham have failed to score in three of their last five league games while Spurs have conceded just seven in their eight Premier League outings to date. This looks set to be another low-scoring affair.

Tottenham have won just one of their last four meetings against the Hammers while the East London side have won three of the last six clashes. Spurs have lost four of their last eight games in all competitions with several key players either injured or out of form, while West Ham – despite their recent loss at Brighton – have turned a corner with their form. Home advantage should be enough to see them to at least point.

Head to Head

Despite Tottenham’s dominance in terms of league positions over the past number of years, the head-to-head record between the sides is not only surprisingly even but the Hammers have the edge in the fixtures in recent times.

Of the last 12 meetings between the sides, West Ham have triumphed on six occasions while Spurs have won four and there have been two draws. The most recent clash was a 1-1 draw at Wembley in January.

  • Tottenham have accumulated more points than any other Premier League side away from home this season – with 12 points from their five outings on the road.
  • Both of West Ham’s home defeats this season – against Bournemouth and Wolves – have each been by a single goal.
  • Spurs have scored seven goals more and conceded six goals fewer than the Hammers so far in the Premier League this season.
