Tottenham vs Burnley Premier League

Saturday December 15th, 15:00

The Premier League’s busy December schedule continues this weekend with third-placed Tottenham Hotspur playing host to relegation-threatened Burnley in a game the hosts are strong favourites to win.

This is a fixture between two sides who are going through sharply contrasting seasons so far – a whopping 24 points separate the two after the opening 16 rounds of fixtures.

Spurs have not yet drawn any league games this season and despite losing four times, their 12 wins from 16 games means they are on course for in excess of 85 points this campaign.

Burnley’s victory over Brighton last time out was their first league win in nine attempts and indeed they had lost six of the seven league games prior to it.

Sean Dyche’s side sit two points and one place outside the relegation zone while Spurs are six points off the top of the league, and two clear of Chelsea in fourth.

The hosts will be strong favourites to make it six league wins out of their last seven due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Burnley.

The home side are favourites to win this game and in reality it should be comfortable – a 2-0 triumph for the North London side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Burnley have failed to find the net in four of their last eight league games and have managed to score just three in their last five attempts. Coupled with that, Tottenham have already accumulated six clean sheets in the Premier League this campaign including their last match – a 2-0 victory at Leicester. Spurs winning this game to nil is among the best football betting odds this weekend.

Linked to the previous bet, this should be a comfortable home win for Spurs but there may not be too many goals. It is easy to forget Mauricio Pochettino’s men will have played a draining match in Barcelona just days earlier and will not have lots of energy for this encounter. With that in mind, Spurs are likely not only to win to nil but in a game with fewer than three goals.

Head to Head

A Harry Kane hat-trick blew Burnley away 3-0 at Turf Moor the last time the two sides met, back in December 2017. However, the Lancashire side did take a point at Wembley last season – Chris Wood’s last-minute strike earning a 1-1 draw against Spurs.

  • Tottenham have only accumulated 12 points from home this season – they have played just six home league games, fewer than any other club in the division.
  • Burnley have failed to score a goal in five of their eight away matches to date this campaign.
  • Only Mohamed Salah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (both 10) have scored more Premier League goals so far this season than Harry Kane (9).
  • Burnley had 28 points at the same stage last season and were sitting in sixth position in the league. They are 16 points and 11 positions worse off this campaign.
