Manchester United vs Southampton Premier League

The match is over.
Score: 3-2.

This is one of the standout games of the Premier League with top-four chasing Manchester United playing host to relegation-battling Southampton in a game which will have a clear impact on both ends of the table.

Predictions

Manchester United have collected an impressive 26 points in their opening 10 matches under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to reignite their hopes of a top four finish.

The Red Devils are yet to taste defeat domestically under the Norwegian boss in an impressive run of form which has seen them record wins at Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea alongside a draw with Liverpool.

Southampton have also enjoyed an upturn in form under boss Ralph Hasenhuttl but they remain in the relegation zone due to a lack of consistency in results.

The Saints have won four, lost four and drawn three under the German boss in their last 11 league games, but still remain one point behind Cardiff City and safety.

The hosts will be favourites to continue their run of recent form due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Southampton.

The home side are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 2-0 triumph for the Red Devils would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

United have kept four consecutive domestic clean sheets and have won 11 of their 13 domestic matches under their new management regime. Southampton have managed a measly 28 goals in 27 league games to date this campaign, so these are among the best online betting odds for this round of fixtures.

The Frenchman has been in sparkling form for United under Solskjaer, netting nine goals in 12 domestic appearances under the Norwegian. He is certain to play a full game here due to being suspended for United’s trip to Paris four days later and will be keen to make his mark on the scoresheet. Pogba is 5/4 anytime with Royal Panda.

Statistics

Head to Head

This fixture ended 2-2 earlier this season, before respective manager Mark Hughes and Jose Mourinho were subsequently dismissed by their clubs. Three of the last four matches have ended as stalemates, with Romelu Lukaku’s goal earning United a 1-0 victory on the South Coast last season in the one exception.

Stats

  • Manchester United have seven wins and 26 points from their 13 home league matches this season – the sixth strongest record in the division this season.
  • Southampton have not enjoyed a great deal of success on their travels, with just three wins and 12 points from their 14 games away from home.
  • No team has collected more points (26) in the Premier League since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at Old Trafford in December.
  • Only Fulham and Huddersfield have won fewer Premier League games than Southampton (5) this season – at least two fewer than any club not in the relegation zone.
