New Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will been keen to impress against a Huddersfield Town side in desperate need of points in the Premier League.

It has been a crazy week for Manchester United. Following their 3-1 loss to rivals Liverpool they sacked manager Jose Mourinho, appointing former players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as interim boss.

And the new manager has been blessed with a favourable schedule while he fully gets his feet under the table, playing Cardiff, Huddersfield Town and Bournemouth – all games that the Red Devils will be favourites for in betting sites’ odds.

Huddersfield have similarly easy run on paper, playing all the bottom five (excluding themselves)  around their trip to Old Trafford.

But as those fixtures are all sides around them they cannot afford to drop too many more points, having already lost their last four matches.

Solsjkaer’s home debut as manager should be an enjoyable one, as his side win by as much as 2-0 despite any potential teething problems.

Manchester United’s defending this season has fallen well short of expectations, already conceding as many goals as they did last season. But they come up against a side who struggle to score against even the leakiest of defences, scoring the fewest amount of goals of any team at 10. They will struggle to significantly improve on that at Old Trafford.

How Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer will set his team up against Huddersfield is anyone’s guess, but he might give some strong consideration to start Romelu Lukaku given his recent record against the Terriers.

He scored twice when the sides last met in the FA Cup, also finding the net earlier that month against them in the Premier League.

Head to Head

Huddersfield dominated this fixture during their overall dominance in the First Division in the mid 1920’s, when they won the league three times. During that era they went nine matches unbeaten against Manchester United.

More recent results have seen the dominance we have come to expect from Manchester United, with the Red Devils winning 13 of the last 14, though all but three were last played 1972 or earlier.

The latest match between the two saw Romelu Lukaku score twice in a 2-0 win.
