Manchester City will try to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table by seeing off the challenge of rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

There is an argument that Manchester City are currently playing the best football they ever have under Pep Guardiola. In recent weeks, City have hammered Burnley, Shakhtar Donetsk and Southampton to cement their position as England’s strongest side. It’s five wins in a row now for Guardiola’s charges, who had also kept six clean sheets in a row before conceding from the penalty spot against the Saints.

Manchester United and Jose Mourinho were left breathing a huge sigh of relief after Marcus Rashford’s injury time winner against Bournemouth last weekend. United are seventh, nine points away from their high-flying neighbours, but will take heart from their valiant comeback victory at the Etihad last season.

City have had a kind start at home this season and the hardest opposition they’ve faced, Lyon, walked away with a surprise win in September. It won’t be the walk in the park that it’s been recently, but the hosts should have the class to see off United 2-1.

Betting Tips

Both teams managed to get on the scoresheet in each of United and City’s meetings last season. City won 2-1 at Old Trafford in September, while Mourinho’s men won 3-2 at the Etihad as the home side looked to close out a title win.

City are in devastating attacking form but United haven’t been too bad in front of goal themselves, scoring nine times in their last four Premier League matches.

The visitors do have pace in attack and can exploit any spaces that the City defence leave. A home win with both teams scoring is at 7/4.

Martial is one of the Premier League’s in-form players – an unlikely development after his dreadful start to the campaign.

The Frenchman has hit the back of the net five times in his last four league appearances, including twice at Stamford Bridge against City’s title rivals Chelsea.

Martial has scored 56% of United’s goals since the start of October and he’s at 7/2 to beat Ederson on Sunday.

Head to Head

Manchester City may be the team to beat in the Premier League at the minute but they haven’t fared too well in this fixture in recent years, winning just one of their last five fixtures against United home and away.

Last season, United denied City the title at the Etihad Stadium, coming back from two goals down to beat Guardiola’s side 3-2. Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan gave City a 2-0 lead at the break but a Paul Pogba double levelled matters before Chris Smalling volleyed in a winner.

  • Manchester United have won seven points from losing positions this season – more than any other Premier League club.
  • Sergio Aguero is the Premier League’s top scorer this season, alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Eden Hazard on seven goals.
  • Only Alan Shearer (212 games) has scored 150 Premier League goals quicker than Sergio Aguero (217 games).
  • Romelu Lukaku has been caught offside more times than any other Premier League player this season (12).
  • Manchester United have recorded just one clean sheet from 11 matches this season.
