Manchester City will look to continue their Premier League resurgence and keep pace with the leaders when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium on Monday evening.

Manchester City kept the title race alive with a 2-1 victory over Premier League frontrunners Liverpool in their last league fixture.

Pep Guardiola’s men go into the weekend’s matches just four points behind the Reds with 17 matches left to play.

Back-to-back wins over the Reds and Southampton have put City back on track after consecutive defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City had threatened to derail their title defence over the festive period.

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to get back to winning ways themselves having begun the new calendar year with a demoralising home defeat to Palace.

However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s team remain in the top half of the table and are closer to the continental qualification places than the relegation zone.

Having clawed their way back into the title picture, it’s difficult to see City relinquishing points at home again and a narrow 2-1 victory will satisfy Guardiola.

Betting Tips

Manchester City might have a plethora of talent at their disposal but they shouldn’t underestimate Wolves – particularly because Espirito Santo’s men are away from home. Wolves have scored in each of their last five on the road. They’ve also already scored at Old Trafford, Wembley Stadium and the Emirates Stadium this season, so betting sites may be hasty pricing this at better than evens.

Wolves have taken to the Premier League like the proverbial duck to water and are yet to be hammered in any of their league fixtures. They haven’t lost by more than one goal on their travels since their opening away game at Leicester City back in August. Manchester City may have hammered Rotherham United in the FA Cup, but their other wins of late have been by more slender margins.

Head to Head

Prior to this season where Wolves and City drew 1-1 at Molineux, the last time these two teams went head-to-head in the Premier League was in the 2011/12 campaign. Manchester City won both at home and away that year, with goals from Edin Dzeko, Aleksandar Kolarov and Adam Johnson helped them to a 3-1 win at the Etihad Stadium. Wolves’ two Premier League triumphs have both come at Molineux and they haven’t beaten City away since August 1999 – when a young Robbie Keane scored the winner.

  • Manchester City players account for three of the top ten assisters in the Premier League, with Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva amassing 20 assists between them.
  • Wolves are third on the list of the Premier League’s top tacklers, with only West Ham United and Huddersfield Town making more.
  • Manchester City have had 366 shots this season – 29 more than any other team.
  • Wolves have lost just two of their last nine league away matches.
