Score: 2-0.

With Liverpool picking up their win at home against Tottenham on Sunday to go back top of the Premier League table, Man Citycjester have the chance to jump straight over them and bring the Reds back down to earth with a win over relegation threatened Cardiff.

On paper, this really should not be a contest at all. Man City have been scoring goals and beating teams for fun in the past few weeks while Cardiff were so unlucky to lose against Chelsea, so it could be a goal fest for the home side.

City come into this game knowing that a win will put them back on top of the table before the start their quest for an unprecedented quadruple, with Brighton in the FA Cup over the weekend and Tottenham in the Champions League.

Cardiff know that they will probably get heavily defeated in this game but will try to frustrate City for the majority of the game, sitting deep and inviting pressure onto themselves to soak up whatever City can throw at them.

In recent weeks, City have beaten Fulham, Watford, Bournemouth, West Ham, Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal since their last defeat, which was away at Newcastle.

Cardiff, on the other hand, have only managed three wins in 2019, coming against West Ham, Southampton and Bournemouth.

The home side are heavy favourites for this game so anything in the range of 4-0 and higher is the score lines to be looking for.

Betting Tips

City are overwhelming favourites for this clash so a home win seems to carry very little risk. A thrashing looks like it could be in the offing so while Cardiff will look to frustrate and contain City, the whole world knows that it’ll probably be a large beating. This is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action, and 888sport have it as 17/2.

It seems rather strange that after scoring the first goal in the last game against Fulham after five minutes that Bernardo Silva isn’t higher up the list when it comes to first goal scorers but, nevertheless, there are good odds on a player that has a fine record at the Etihad, and has a track record of opening the scoring, with this bet rated at 13/2 by 888sport.

Head to Head

These two have only ever met four times prior to this weekend, with Man City winning three and Cardiff winning the first game 3-2 thanks to goals from Frazier Campbell and Aron Gunnarsson (the latter of which is still at the club), all the way back in 2013.

  • The top scorer in this fixture is actually Frazier Campbell on three goals while Riyad Mahrez is second with two goals, joint with Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero.
  • The aggregate score in this fixture all-time is Manchester City 13-5 Cardiff, with five of those goals coming in the reverse fixture this season.
  • Cardiff have only managed to score more than two goals in a game once this season in a 4-2 home win against Fulham back in October last year. City have managed to score two or more goals in a game 15 times in the Premier League this season.
  • If the scoreline was 5-0 in Cardiff back in September, there is a genuine risk that City could score more but it may also be worth bearing in mind that if they do get to 2-0 or 3-0 early on, Pep may have his side ease off the accelerator to preserve energy ahead of their FA Cup semifinal.
