Man City vs Bournemouth Premier League

Saturday December 1st, 15:00

Manchester City could extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points, for 24 hours at least, if they beat out-of-form Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Predictions

Manchester City continue to look untouchable in the Premier League this season, with last weekend’s 4-0 hammering of West Ham United their fifth win on the bounce.

With nearest rivals Liverpool not playing until Sunday, Pep Guardiola will expect his team to pile the pressure on the Reds – who face Merseyside rivals Everton – by putting distance between themselves and Jurgen Klopp’s charges.

City have now scored 40 times this season at an average of over three goals in each game and will be eager to face a Bournemouth team they’ve put 13 past in their last three meetings at the Etihad Stadium.

Bournemouth will count themselves rather unlucky to have lost three matches in a row against Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal – all by 2-1 scorelines.

Despite that losing streak, Eddie Howe’s side sit comfortably in eighth place in the table and are far away from the threat of being pulled into a relegation battle.

The form and history books look to point in one direction for this match and it should be a comfortable 4-1 Manchester City win.

Betting Tips

Bournemouth have been thrashed 4-0, 4-0 and 5-1 respectively on their last three visits to the blue half of Manchester and the two teams’ recent form points to that trend continuing on Saturday. City have scored at least five goals in three of their last five matches at the Etihad Stadium and that is an ominous statistic for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Spanish maestro is in a real purple patch at the moment, scoring in each of Manchester City’s last four matches. He’s also broken the deadlock in the last three against Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester United and West Ham United. With the continued absence of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, it’s unlikely that Silva will be rested so his odds to score first look excellent.

Statistics

Head to Head

Manchester City have won all six of the meetings between these teams since Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League in 2015. City won 4-0 at the Etihad last season, with Sergio Aguero scoring twice. Interestingly, Raheem Sterling has scored seven times against Bournemouth in the Premier League, including a hat-trick in October 2015. Bournemouth last avoided defeat in Manchester in a 3-3 draw in May 1989.

Stats

  • Manchester City haven’t tasted defeat in 19 Premier League matches.
  • This match will see the Premier League’s two top assisters go head-to-head, with Raheem Sterling and Ryan Fraser both having seven to their name.
  • Ederson is set to make his 50th Premier League appearance between the posts for Manchester City against Bournemouth.
  • Aymeric Laporte has made 1,151 passes for Manchester City this season – over 500 more than Bournemouth’s top passer Nathan Ake (647).
