Score: 3-0.

The Premier League continues this weekend with champions Manchester City playing host to an in-form Aston Villa side in the early kick-off on Saturday, with the hosts looking to apply pressure to league leaders Liverpool.

Manchester City have already suffered surprise defeats on two occasions this season including their last home outing in the Premier League – going down 0-2 against Wolves.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side won 2-0 at Crystal Palace last time out and have reduced the gap to league leaders Liverpool to just six points.

After just five points from their opening seven rounds of action, Aston Villa are now in form and have won back-to-back matches in the division.

Dean Smith’s side recorded an impressive 5-1 win at Norwich before edging out Brighton 2-1 last time out.

The hosts will be favourites to run out winners here due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Villa.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 4-2 triumph for the Manchester side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Aston Villa have found the net 15 times in their nine league outings this season – the best attacking record outside the top four. 11 of those have come in their last four and whilst it is not likely to be enough to help them avoid defeat in this game, it should mean they breach City’s precarious defence at least once, so a both teams to score bet carries some of the best online betting odds for the fixture. 888Sport price the home win and BTTS at 13/10.

Linked into the previous bet, this is a game which is likely to have lots of goals. With 29 goals in nine league outings, Pep Guardiola’s men are comfortably the biggest attacking threat in the division but are conceding an average of a goal a game and have multiple defensive injuries. This is likely to be a goal fest and six or more is a tempting bet at 29/10, from 888Sport.

Head to Head

City have run out 4-0 victors against Villa in each of their last two encounters including a Premier League meeting in March 2016 when Sergio Aguero netted twice.

  • With 29 goals to their name this season in the Premier League, City have scored eight goals more than the next strongest attack (Liverpool, 21).
  • Aston Villa are not in the top half but their goal tally (15) is higher than anyone’s outside the current top four.
  • City’s loss at home to Wolves in their last league fixture at the Etihad Stadium was their first home defeat since December 2018, against Crystal Palace.
  • Villa’s 5-1 win at Norwich in their last away game brought an end to their 21-game winless streak on the road in the division.
