Score: 5-1.

Premier League leaders Liverpool will try to maintain their six-point cushion at the top of the table when Arsenal visit Anfield on Saturday evening.

Predictions

The outcome of Boxing Day’s matches could prove to be critical in the race for the Premier League title, with Manchester City losing to Leicester City and Liverpool beating Newcastle.

Those results meant the Reds’ lead at the top of the division was extended to six points – a gap which would now makes Jurgen Klopp’s side favourites in the eyes of many betting sites.

It’s now seven wins in a row in all competitions for Liverpool who have won 25 points from a possible 27 on Merseyside this season.

Arsenal remain in the hunt for a top four finish but dropped points on the road again on Boxing Day, drawing 1-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Gunners have just one victory to look back on in their last five Premier League away fixtures.

Liverpool are in tremendous form, while Arsenal are shaky on the road, and that should see the Reds edge closer to their first Premier League title with a 3-1 win.

Betting Tips

There are usually plenty of goals in this fixture, with the back of the net being found 29 times in the last six matches between Liverpool and Arsenal. Only Manchester City have scored more goals than the Reds this season, while the Gunners have both scored and conceded in every Premier League away game.

Roberto Firmino has scored five goals in his last six appearances for Liverpool against Arsenal, including twice in a 3-3 draw at Anfield in 2016. The Brazilian has gone five games without netting for the Reds so could be due to get his name on the scoresheet again on Saturday against his favourite opponents.

Statistics

Liverpool and Arsenal drew 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the season, with Alexandre Lacazette cancelling out James Milner’s opener. The pair’s last meeting at Anfield was in August 2017, with Liverpool romping to a 4-0 victory. The Gunners haven’t beaten the Reds in their last seven meetings home or away and last won on Merseyside way back in September 2012.

  • Mohamed Salah needs one goal to draw level with Ian Rush (45) on Liverpool’s list of all-time Premier League scorers.
