Score: 4-0.

As the Premier League season draws to a climax, every game starts to have so much more importance attached to it and with Everton, hopeful of attaining a final Europa League spot, hosting Champions League-chasing Manchester United, this could be a potentially huge game in the race for Europe.

After their win at home against Arsenal the other week and Manchester United’s perceived dip in standards in recent fixtures, this game might be too close to firmly call, but a draw might be the safest way to go.

Judging by league positions, Everton will be underdogs heading into this match and you can see why. Wins against Chelsea and Arsenal at home have improved their form but losses against Newcastle and Fulham confirm that Marco Silva still has a lot to do.

United’s form has dropped in recent weeks and it’s not hard to miss. Losses against Arsenal, Wolves and Barcelona has left them nearly out of the Champions League and out of the top four race.

But despite those defeats, United still picked up three points against both Watford and West Ham and while it may not be as stylish as some would like, three points are still three points.

A win or draw for the Blues here would make it their fourth unbeaten game in a row at Goodison Park having previously beaten Arsenal and Chelsea while taking a point off of Liverpool in a 0-0 draw.

The visitors are probably slight favourites for this one and while it would be smart to go with a draw, maybe a sneaky 2-1 away win might be more profitable for this week’s round of bets.

Betting Tips

While United are favourites for this game – albeit very slight favourites – you can still get good odds on an away win with 888sport having 2-1 United as 15/2. Would it be wise to completely rule out Everton? No, but it would also be unwise to rule United out especially in this scoreline seeing as that’s how they beat West Ham and Watford while Everton have conceded two or more goals in their last two defeats.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, due to the results these two sides have had in recent weeks. It wouldn’t be a shock to see Everton take an early lead like they did against Arsenal before United levelled things up before the break. A late goal is always a possibility when the Red Devils play, so maybe a late winner would be in the offing to complete the turn around, with this tip rated at 23/5 by 888sport.

Head to Head

With two historic teams playing one another for so many years, it shouldn’t be a surprise that this fixture will be the 100th time Everton and Manchester United have played, with Everton winning 25 times, United winning 51 times and 23 draws being played.

  • Everton haven’t beaten Manchester United since 2015 when goals from James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas gave the Toffees a 3-0 win.
  • United’s form at Goodison Park is quite good considering they’ve only lost their six times in the Premier League era with the first loss coming in 1995 when Duncan Ferguson scored the winner.
  • The joint top scorer in this fixture is United’s current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with seven goals, level with Ryan Giggs and Everton legend Graeme Sharpe.
  • With so many games behind them, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see so many goals scored, with United leading the way 154 compared to Everton’s 104.
