In their second London derby in a row, Crystal Palace attempt to turn their fortunes around against an under-manned Tottenham.

While Spurs’ stadium delays cost them millions, and Champions League hopes in tatters, one can be forgiven for thinking their season is a bust. But their form in the Premier League hasn’t slipped, with a 3-2 win seeing them squeeze back into the top four.

Things are not so rosy for Crystal Palace. A 3-1 loss to Chelsea inflicted their third defeat in a row, and seventh this season. Sandwiched in a tough run of games which sees them travel to Manchester United next week is a match against Spurs, against whom they have a poor record.

Crystal Palace’s poor form, particularly at home should see them fall victim to Spurs, perhaps in another 3-1 loss.

As poor as Palace have been in recent weeks, in their last two games against top sides they managed to get on the scoresheet.

Spurs’ injury crisis has seen them forced to do without players such as Jan Vertonghen, Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama – all defensive players.

They instead handed a debut to 20-year-old defender Juan Foyth against Wolves, who conceded two penalties. Even if Foyth does not face Palace, their lack of defensive depth may see them concede at least once.

Tottenham have tended to start games very well, this season ranking in the top four for teams at half time. But things do slip, as they conceded two late goals against Wolves in their last game. At 2-0 they also conceded against West Ham and gave up a lead against PSV in the Champions League with an 87th minute goal. While they may win, their lack of depth on the bench will open opportunities for teams later in the game.

The last time Crystal Palace hosted Tottenham it was a very tight affair. Last season Spurs snatched a late victory, curtsey of an 88th minute Harry Kane header. That goal inflicted the Eagles’ fourth straight loss to Mauricio Pochettino’s side. The last time Palace beat Tottenham came in a FA Cup tie in 2016, a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane, and their last league win came a year earlier.

In 52 games, Spurs have won over half, with Palace registering only 11 wins, and 13 stalemates.

  • Tottenham have won 24 points from their 11 Premier League games this season, only in 2011-12 (25) have they picked up more at this stage of a single campaign in the competition.
  • Tottenham forward Harry Kane has scored 27 goals in his last 27 away Premier League games.
  • Spurs have only lost two of their last 17 away games in the Premier League, winning each of the last four in a row.
  • Crystal Palace have taken just five points from their last 10 Premier League matches (W1 D2 L7).
  • Crystal Palace are yet to win at home in the Premier League in five matches (W0 D2 L3)
