The Premier League recommences this weekend with a West London derby between Chelsea and Fulham in Sunday’s early kick-off. One of the storylines around the match is the return of new Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri to Chelsea.

The form of these two side’s contrasts sharply this season with the Blues, in fourth, sitting 20 points clear of Fulham, who are rooted to the foot of the table.

However, despite the vast points difference there is arguably a more positive food for the visiting team after last weekend’s results when they defeated Southampton and Chelsea lost heavily at Tottenham.

The Blues had been unbeaten in competitive action under Maurizio Sarri until that loss at Wembley but so poor was the performance it has led to suggestions that the team personnel and shape may need altered.

New Fulham boss Ranieri got off to the perfect start with a much-needed three points and fate has pitted his next two games against his two former clubs: Chelsea and Leicester City, with whom he memorably won the 2016 title.

The hosts will be strong favourites to return to winning ways in the league due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over their West London rivals.

The home side are favourites to win this game and will be keen to bounce back from their defeat at Spurs – a 3-1 triumph for the FA Cup holders would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Mitrovic netted twice in Saturday’s victory over Southampton to take his Premier League tally up to an impressive seven goals in 13 appearances this campaign. He is in red-hot form, netting in each of Serbia’s matches over the most recent international break to bring his national tally up to four in his last four games. His confidence will be sky-high and these odds are hugely favourable that he will strike again.

Fulham have comfortably the worst defensive record in the league so far this campaign, shipping a whopping 33 goals in just 13 matches. However, no team in the bottom half has scored more goals than they have (14) and they are facing a Chelsea side who conceded three times at Wembley last time out. The Blues – 28 goals to their name – have plenty of offensive threat themselves. Lots of goals are a real possibility here.

Head to Head

Chelsea ran out 3-1 victors at Craven Cottage the last time these two sides met, back in March 2014. Indeed, the Whites have not won in their last 17 attempts against their West London rivals, a run dating back to March 2006.

  • Chelsea were the last remaining unbeaten team in all competitions across Europe’s top five leagues until losing at Tottenham last time out (excluding the Community Shield).
  • However, the Blues have been held in three of their last four home league games – dropping points against Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton.
  • Fulham have picked up just one point away from home this season in seven matches while they have just one win in their last 17 games on the road in the top flight.
  • Fulham have not tasted victory at Stamford Bridge since March 1964, when they won 1-2.
