Premier League Chelsea vs Brighton
Chelsea vs Brighton Premier League

The match is over.
Score: 3-0.

This fixture has been rearranged from late February, when Chelsea’s participation in the EFL Cup final ensured that this match had to be moved back in the fixture scheduling. The Blues are favourite for the tie despite Brighton’s improved recent form.

Chelsea are in a poor run of form – they have won just four of their 10 Premier League matches since the turn of the year and they have slipped to sixth.

The Blues, who are still in the Europa League at the quarter-final stage, now have their eyes firmly set on a top four spot but must overhaul two of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham in order to achieve this.

Brighton have moved away from the relegation zone following back-to-back wins over Huddersfield and Crystal Palace, having won just one of their previous 12 league games.

The Seagulls are currently five points clear of the drop zone and sit in 15th, but will be wary that they are not safe yet and also have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to.

The hosts will be favourites to bounce back to winning ways in the league to possessing home advantage and superior quality over Brighton.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 2-0 triumph for Maurizio Sarri’s side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Chelsea have been in front at the break just once in their last 13 Premier League games – a 5-0 thumping of Huddersfield back in February. Brighton by contrast have conceded just once in their past two games and will look to sit back and frustrate the hosts here, making this one of the best online betting odds of the weekend round of matches. Unibet price it at 3/1.

Brighton have scored just 32 league goals so far this campaign – the lowest of any side outside the relegation zone other than Newcastle. Chelsea have struggled in front of goal recently too, they have failed to score in five of their last ten league games and have scored more than twice just once in their last 19 league outings. 888Sport price it at 11/8.

Head to Head

Chelsea have won all three Premier League meetings between the two since the Seagulls won promotion in 2017, including their 2-1 triumph on the South Coast in December – Pedro and Eden Hazard scoring for the Blues, with Solly March on target for Brighton.

  • Chelsea’s problems have been in front of goal this season – they have 50 league goals this season, significantly fewer than all five sides above them (closest to Tottenham, 57).
  • Only Newcastle (31) have scored fewer league goals than Brighton (32) of all 17 sides outside the Premier League relegation zone, this season.
  • The Blues have suffered just one home league defeat this season, to Leicester City, winning nine of their 15 home games and collecting 32 points in the process.
  • Brighton have struggled on the road this season, winning three games and just 11 points from their 15 matches away from home – the 17th best record in the division.
