Score: 0-2.

A potentially huge game that could affect both the top and bottom of the Premier League table as relegation threatened Cardiff host title chasing Liverpool in what could be a make or break game both of involved.

On paper, this shouldn’t really be a contest. Cardiff, out of form and down of their luck, host a Liverpool side who look like a team possessed as they chase their first Premier League title, so it should be a walk over for the Reds.

Cardiff come into this game with just one win in their last seven – a home win against West Ham – and are staring relegation in the face as they sit in 18th place.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have a completely different run of form behind them. In the Premier League, they’re unbeaten since early January and haven’t dropped points since a 0-0 draw away at Everton in early March.

Since that draw in March, Liverpool have beaten Burnley, Fulham, Spurs, Southampton and Chelsea and conceded six goals in those five games.

Cardiff’s recent losses have come against Burnley, Manchester City, Chelsea, Wolves, Everton and Watford, scoring just twice in that run.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many feel it will be. Liverpool will get the job done early on and preserve themselves for bigger games to come, so a 3-0 scoreline may be the best bet.

Betting Tips

Liverpool are clear favourites for this game and it shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone, and with a 3-0 scoreline likely – 888sport have it as 6/1. Cardiff will fight and they’ll try to get a big point from this or even a rather unlikely win, but to bet against Liverpool wouldn’t be very wise despite the lure of bigger odds.

Of course you could always bet with the exact winning margin instead of the precise scoreline with Liverpool always favourites for the win in this game, but the winning margin odds seem to be better on this occasion. A thumping may not be in order given how rarely we see them these days, so a comfortable and effortless three goal winning margin for Jurgen Klopp’s side seems likely, rated at 21/5 by 888sport.

  • Perhaps the most famous fixture between these two came in the 2012 League Cup Final when Liverpool won 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Martin Skrtel and Dirk Kuyt scored for Liverpool on that day while Joe Mason and Ben Turner scored for Cardiff.
  • The top scorers in this fixture are a mix of who you’d expect and a few you wouldn’t. Leading the way is Luis Suarez with five, followed by Jordan Mutch and Martin Skrtel on three while Sadio Mane is behind them with two.
  • The very first meeting came in in 2007 in the FA Cup when goals from Nabil El Zhar and Steven Gerrard gave Liverpool a 2-1 win.
