Premier League Cardiff vs Chelsea
Cardiff vs Chelsea Premier League

The match is over.
Score: 1-2.

This game will have huge ramifications on both the relegation battle and the top four but with Chelsea travelling to Wales to face Cardiff in a bid to make ground on Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham, they should be wary of a Cardiff side who are desperate for points themselves.

ON paper this should be an easy win for Chelsea considering who have they to pick from compared to their opponent but Chelsea have made somewhat of a habit out of ruining away days for their fans, with this one being a potential banana skin.

Cardiff will be underdogs for this game having won just one game in their last four – at home against West Ham – but they’d argue that the West Ham win will give them a huge confidence boost and that they’re due a win against one of the top six.

Chelsea need a win to get over their last away defeat against Everton and a victory would potentially see them cut the gap between themselves and Arsenal in fourth to just goal difference.

Cardiff’s win against West Ham ended a run of three straight losses which saw them lose to Watford, Everton and Wolves to compound misery upon them in that period.

The away side’s loss against Everton was their first in the Premier League since getting hammered 6-0 away at Man City, but the loss also meant it was two games in a row without a win following their draw at home against Wolves.

While the away side are favourites for this one and while it may look like a potential banana skin, it’s probably safer to bank with a Chelsea win, perhaps a 3-1 victory for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Betting Tips

Chelsea will be overwhelming favourites with the book makers for this game – perhaps unsurprisingly – but you can still find good money on an away win, UniBet having a 3-1 win at 21/2. Cardiff obviously have a lot to play for but the sheer class an quality of this Chelsea side will see them through with a win, which is one of the better odds of the weekend.

Oumar Niasse is quite far down on the list for first goalscorer’s mainly because his record could be described as ‘abysmal’ but it wouldn’t be too much of a shock if Cardiff come out of the gates flying, catch Chelsea cold at the start and Niasse – who scored in the win against West Ham – pops up to match the game interesting, a bet which is rated at 21/2 by UniBet.

Head to Head

Cardiff and Chelsea have only ever met each other four times with Chelsea winning every game, with an aggregate score of 14-4 in favour of the London club.

  • Cardiff’s only goals against Chelsea have come from Craig Bellamy, Michael Chopra, Jordan Mutch and Sol Bamba.
  • In the four times Cardiff and Chelsea have played each other, Cardiff have only ever been behind at half time once, which came in the game at Stamford Bridge this season. In the previous meetings, they’ve been ahead once and level twice.
  • Cardiff could see this game as a chance to get some valuable points on the board considering they have Manchester City after this game followed by a relegation battle against fellow strugglers Burnley before making a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.
  • Chelsea, on the other hand, still have to go to Anfield as well to face Liverpool and face a trip to Old Trafford against Manchester United, so this will be their perfect opportunity to get points under their belt as we enter the business end of the season.
