Burnley vs Chelsea Premier League

The match is over.
Score: 2-4.

A tough fixture for both sides as Burnley look to take the scalp of a top six team for the first time in a long while, while this young Chelsea side and their inexperienced manager will see this as a major test of their mental toughness and strength in tough situations.

The away side should be favourites for this game with the bookies but we all know that going to Turf Moor is a lot tougher than anyone expects, so it’s not advised to rule any score out with these bets.

Burnley will be coming into this game off the back of their result against Leicester which saw them lose 2-1 despite Sean Dychefeeling that the second Burnley goal shouldn’t have been ruled out by VAR.

Chelsea huffed and puffed their way past a negative Newcastle side last weekend before their Champions League exploits with Marcos Alonso popping up to score the winner in the second half.

That loss against Leicester ended Burnley’s run of four games without defeat, beating Everton and Norwich while drawing against Aston Villa and Brighton.

Chelsea’s run has been quite good and are currently on a run of five wins in a row in all competitions, beating Grimsby, Lille, Newcastle, Brighton and Southampton in that run.

The away side are favourites for this one but it won’t be a blow out. A 2-0 or 2-1 win for Frank Lampard’s side should be enough to get them the three points.

Betting Tips

Everyone knows how hard it is to go to Burnley and to pick up a win, so a tight victory for Chelsea looks like it could be in order as the visitors do have greater quality and their form has been strong. 888Sport price a Chelsea win by 2-0 at 8/1.

The chances of the scores being level at the half time break is quite likely, because you could imagine Burnley sitting deep and defending with a low block for the entire game with Chelsea trying to find a way through, before eventually finding that goal later in the second half and opening the game up, and this bet is rated at 4/1 by 888sport.

Head to Head

This will be the 99th fixture played between Burnley and Chelsea, with Burnley winning more games than the Blues. The Clarets have 38 wins while Chelsea only have 36 and the draw has been the final result 24 times.

  • The first game came back in 1905 in the old Second Division, with Chelsea taking a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge.
  • Burnley’s first win was a 2-0 victory in 1906 but that would be their only victory for five years and had to wait until 1911 to register another win.
  • The last time Burnley beat Chelsea at home was all the way back in 1983 in the old Second Division again, withBurnley winning 3-0 at Turf Moor.
  • In fact three of Burnley’s last four wins against Chelsea in a league competition have been at home, albeit those wins came in 1983, 1977 and 1973.
