Score: 2-1.

Arsenal could sneak into the Premier League top four – temporarily at least – if they beat a lowly Cardiff City at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Predictions

Arsenal’s Champions League hopes were boosted last time out as they beat top four rivals Chelsea 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium to move within three points of Maurizio Sarri’s men.

With the Blues not playing until Wednesday, the Gunners could pile more pressure on them with a sixth consecutive Premier League home win.

Arsenal haven’t yet failed to beat a bottom half team at home in the Premier League this season.

This will be Cardiff City’s first match since £15m Argentinian forward Emiliano Sala’s Wales-bound plane went missing en route from Nantes.

The distressed Bluebirds must try to focus on the relegation dogfight as they remain in the bottom three and two points adrift of safety.

Arsenal know that anything less than a victory would hand the momentum back to Chelsea in the top four race, so they’re unlikely to slip up and should win 3-0.

Betting Tips

Cardiff have failed to score in any of their last four matches in all competitions – a run which has included games against Gillingham, Newcastle United and Huddersfield Town. Neil Warnock’s side are seriously lacking in firepower and the betting sites agree. 888sports price Arsenal at just 23/20 to win to nil.

Alexandre Lacazette seems to be hitting a purple patch after a few frustrating months at the Emirates Stadium. The Frenchman has scored two in his last two at home for Arsenal and he’ll likely feature alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the start again this week. According to 888sports, he’s at evens to score and help the Gunners to three more points.

Statistics

Head to Head

Arsenal had to sweat for a win at Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season, with Alexandre Lacazette’s 81st-minute winner ensuring the scoreline finished 3-2 in their favour. Cardiff haven’t beaten the Gunners since February 1961, also by a 3-2 result, at Highbury.

Stats

  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored 14 times for Arsenal this season, with only Mohamed Salah finding the back of the net on more occasions.
  • Cardiff goalkeeper Neil Etheridge has had to pick the ball out of the back of his net 44 times – a league high.
  • Arsenal defender Sokratis has collected seven yellow cards this season, with only Watford’s Jose Holebas and Bournemouth’s Jefferson Lerma being cautioned more.
  • Burnley are the only team to have made more defensive blocks than Cardiff’s 97.
