Watford vs Crystal Palace FA Cup

The match is over.
Score: 2-1.

The FA Cup quarter-finals get underway with a clash between two Premier League teams who contested the semi-finals in 2016. Palace emerged victorious that time around and each side will believe they have a chance at winning the competition now.

Both these sides will fancy their chances of winning the competition now that they are down to the last eight stage, with both in good form.

Watford are flying in eighth position in the Premier League and have reached this stage of the competition, having defeated Woking, Newcastle United and Queen’s Park Rangers.

Crystal Palace are languishing in 14th position in the Premier League but have embarked on a strong cup run with victories over Grimsby and Doncaster Rovers alongside the notable scalp of Tottenham in the Fourth Round.

Each of these sides are in very similar runs of form with each having won three of their last five matches and four from their last eight in all competitions.

The hosts will be slight favourites to progress through to the quarter-finals due to possessing home advantage and superior quality over Palace.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 2-1 triumph for the Hornets would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Both these sides have been involved in high-scoring encounters in recent weeks, with 18 goals flying in across Watford’s last four league games while the number for Palace are high too – 16 goals going in during their last four. A similar pattern in this game would see four goals or more between two sides with plenty of attacking talent, and this is among the best online betting odds for this round of action.

The Spaniard has been in fantastic form recently, netting four goals in his last four games. The former Barcelona forward now has seven Premier League goals to his name this season but with such fine form, he is sure to be a big threat in this game once more.

Head to Head

Watford have won each of the league meetings this season 2-1 both at Selhurst Park and Vicarage Road, but prior to that had not won in five games against Palace – a run which included three defeats.

  • Crystal Palace have been much stronger away from home this season – 20 of their 33 points have come away from Selhurst Park, and they have the sixth best away record in the top flight.
  • Watford’s home form has been mixed, they have seven victories and 23 points from their 14 Premier League home games – the division’s 10th best record.
  • Palace are at this stage of the competition for the first time since 2016, when they were eventually eliminated by Manchester United 2-1 in that season’s showpiece.
  • Watford are aiming for their first FA Cup final since 1984, when they lost to Everton, and are at this stage of the competition for the first time since 2016 – they lost to Palace in the last four.
