Swansea vs Manchester City FA Cup

The match is over.
Score: 2-3.

The quarter final stages of the FA Cup are played this week although there is little doubt over the outcome of this tie, as Premier League champions Manchester City travel to Wales to face Swansea, looking to move one step closer to a historic and unprecedented Quadruple.

On paper, this could be a landslide victory for Manchester City. Their recent win over Watford in the Premier League showed their might and Swansea could be in for a tough game.

The home side have yet to face Premier League opposition on route to the quarter finals, beating Aston Villa, Gillingham and Brentford.

City, on the other hand, have scored 16 goals in their three FA Cup games, putting seven past Rotherham, five past Burnley and four past Newport.

Swansea themselves have been quite prolific in the competition, scoring 12 including two 4-1 wins over Gillingham and Brentford.

The visitors will be favourites heading into this game having not lost in their last six domestic games and already winning the League Cup earlier this year.

While it may seem out of this world to suggest that Man City will score another seven goals past another Championship team in the FA Cup, it wouldn’t be too unrealistic to see them score five again.

Betting Tips

City are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that they will score a barrel full of goals. Swansea will be intent on giving their home fans a moment to savour and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. City may have their foot off the pedal ever so slightly with the Champions League and title race in min and while home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game and the scoreline being level at the break before City pull away in the second half is a likely outcome.

Head to Head

In 19 matches, Man City have won 14 times with Swansea winning just three times, with the first meeting coming back in 1981. This will be the sides’ first meeting in the FA Cup.

  • Pep Guardiola has never lost a game against Swansea, winning five out of five, conceding just three goals.
  • Swansea haven’t beaten City since 2012, when a goal from Luke Moore was enough for a 1-0 victory.
  • Swansea are having an inconsistent season back in the Championship and sit just 15th in the table 13 wins, eight draws and 14 losses.
  • Man City’s away record in the cups this season, winning all four away games they’ve had in both the League Cup and the FA Cup.
