The semi-finals of the FA Cup take place this weekend with tournament favourites Manchester City hoping to keep their hopes of a quadruple this season alive as they take on outsiders Brighton in the early Saturday evening clash.

Manchester City have managed to maintain their hopes of a remarkable quadruple this season, having already secured the EFL Cup, being in a strong position in the title race alongside the FA Cup and Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side are in fine form, having won a remarkable 20 of their last 21 matches across all competitions – with a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle the only blotch on that record.

Brighton are the lowest ranked of the four FA Cup semi-finalists – they remain 15th in the Premier League and are not yet clear of relegation trouble this season.

The Seagulls needed a late equaliser and penalty shootout victory over Millwall in the last eight to reach this stage, having previously defeated Bournemouth, West Brom and Derby County on their run.

City will be favourites to progress through to this year’s FA Cup final due to holding vastly superior form and quality over Brighton.

The Manchester side are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 3-0 triumph for Pep Guardiola’s men would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Brighton have already failed to find the net in four of their games since the turn of the year – against Liverpool, Watford, West Brom and in their most recent game, against Southampton. The Seagulls have had a real shortage of goals this season – only Newcastle have scored fewer than them of teams not in the Premier League relegation zone – while City have 13 clean sheets from their last 19 matches. City are 11/20 to win to nil with 888Sport.

The English champions are ruthless – they always attack straight from the off and rarely ease up in games, and the same is likely to be true for this last four clash. They have recently recorded huge victories – 7-0 against Schalke, 6-0 against Chelsea and 5-0 over Burnley, and are well placed to win both halves of this game. This is among the best online betting odds for the weekend action, priced at Evens by 888Sport.

Head to Head

City have won all three Premier League meetings between the two sides since Brighton were promoted back to the top-flight in 2017. That included a 2-0 win for City at the Etihad Stadium back in September.

  • Manchester City are the form team in European football – they have played 20 matches in 2019 and have won 19 of them.
  • The FA Cup is the only trophy which Pep Guardiola has participated in as a manager and never won – he lost the 2017 semi-final to Arsenal and his City side were eliminated by Wigan last year in the Fifth Round.
  • Only Newcastle (31) have scored fewer league goals than Brighton (32) of all 17 sides outside the Premier League relegation zone, this season.
  • Brighton have struggled on the road this season, winning three games and just 11 points from their 15 matches away from home – the 17th best record in the division.
