Score: 2-1.

Rangers continue their Europa League group stage campaign on Thursday evening with a tricky trip to Swiss side Young Boys in matchday two of the competition.

Young Boys got their campaign off to a losing start by falling to a 2-1 defeat to group favourites FC Porto on matchday one.

Gerardo Seoane’s side remain unbeaten domestically this season with four wins and four draws from their opening eight league games – they are second in the standings, three points behind Basel.

Rangers got their campaign off to a perfect start with a 1-0 home victory against Dutch side Feyenoord, with SheyiOjo getting the only goal of the game.

The Blues have won five of their opening six league games in the Scottish top flight and sit three points behind leaders Celtic.

The hosts will be favourites to pick up the points here due to possessing home advantage, although form and quality between the two sides appears even.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable and in all likelihood a 1-1 draw is the most probable result.

Betting Tips

Of Rangers 23 games in the Europa League since the start of last season, they have suffered just two defeats by and each of those has been by just one goal, while Young Boys have drawn half of their league games to date and were held at home by Red Star Belgrade in their Champions League qualification game. This is one of the best online betting odds for the matchday, with 888Sport pricing it at odds of 13/5.

Rangers have kept seven clean sheets from their past nine matches in all competitions and this is likely to be another low-scoring game. This will be a cagey game – the visiting side will be happy with a point while the hosts will know it is a finely balanced occasion so there is likely to be fewer than three goals.888Sport have it at 21/20.

Head to Head

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly given the European exploits of both clubs in European competition, these two sides have never previously met before this season.

  • Rangers are in the Europa League group stages for the second successive season but hadn’t been beyond the group stages in the competition for the past seven years.
  • The Glasgow side are hoping to win their first Scottish league title since 2011.
  • Young Boys have won 44 and lost 50 of their 122 matches in official European competition.
  • The last time Young Boys went into the knockout stages of European competition was 2011.
