Vorskla vs Arsenal Europa League

Thursday November 29th, 17:55

The Europa League returns this week with an important Group E clash between Vorskla and Arsenal on Thursday evening in a game the visitors are favourites to win, although the Ukrainian side need points if they are to avoid elimination.

Predictions

Arsenal have already sealed their place in the round of 32 for the Europa League, while Vorskla need an unlikely combination of results to join them.

Arsenal have dropped just two points from their four group games and sit three points clear of second-placed Sporting CP and seven clear of their Ukrainian opponents.

Vorskla need to win both of their remaining games against Arsenal and Sporting CP while simultaneously hoping the Portuguese side do not beat Qarabag.

The two sides met earlier in the group with the Gunners running out 4-2 victors having been four goals ahead in the game.

The visitors will be strong favourites to make it four European wins out of five due to their superior form and quality over Vorskla, but they are expected to rotate.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable due to the long distance in travelling – a 2-1 triumph for the North London side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

This is likely to be a tricky enough task for the Gunners and despite scoring four goals against the Ukrainian side last time out, they only managed one goal before half-time and the game subsequently opening up. There is little value in backing Unai Emery’s side to win this one outright but a victory after the game was tied at the break is likely, as was the case for his side at Bournemouth on Saturday.

There was a grand total of six goals when these two sides met in North London back in September and while there might not be quite that many this time around, four goals or more seems a likely outcome and carries value. The Gunners have eight goals from their four group games while Vorskla have shipped seven – more than any other side in the group. They need to win and that should lead to goals.

Statistics

Head to Head

This is only the second ever meeting between the two teams, with Arsenal winning 4-2 in the opening group stage game two-and-a-half months prior. A double from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang along with goals from Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck put the hosts on course for victory, with Volodimir Chesnakov and Vyacheslav Sharpar netting late consolation strikes for Vorskla.

Stats

  • Arsenal are undefeated in their last 17 matches in all competitions, having lost each of their opening two fixtures this season.
  • The Gunners have netted 39 goals in that run – comfortably more than 2 per game.
  • Vorskla have lost their last three consecutive matches and have not scored a goal in the process – they are 4th in the Ukrainian top flight but eight points from third-placed Dynamo Kiev.
  • In fact, Vorskla have failed to score more than two goals in any one game across their last 26 competitive matches.
