Slavia Praha vs Sevilla Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 4-3.

The second leg of the Europa League knockout rounds are played this week and while this tie is firmly in the balance and perhaps slightly in favour of Prague. Sevilla are the Europa League masters and surely won’t go down and out without a fight?

On paper, the visitors should be favourites for this game but after the first leg which gave us four great goals, anything can happen. No one knows which way the tie will go which makes this one of the more exciting games of the round.

Prague come into this one with the two away goals but level on aggregate, so it remains a question as to whether they will attack for more goals or sit back and hope they can keep Sevilla out.

As for the Spaniards, it’s a case of goals, goals and more goals. They cannot afford to concede a goal yet know if they go gung-ho early on it’ll leave them exposed at the back, almost killing the tie off completely.

Prague beat Genk in the last round after a 0-0 first leg and a 4-1 win away in Belgium which isn’t exactly a good omen for Sevilla.

But looking at the domestic form of Sevilla, they will struggle to pick up a win any time soon, only winning twice since January 26th.

While neither side is outright favourites for this game, it remains an intriguing battle of who will win and how both teams will set up, with Prague either going for the kill or sitting back and Sevilla having to outscore their opponent and keep a clean sheet. The visitors can get a 2-1 win here.

Betting Tips

Judging by the odds, Sevilla are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that both teams will score. 888sport have it as 29/10 when combined with the Sevilla win.

After 90 minutes of the first leg couldn’t split the sides, 45 minutes of the return probably won’t either. But Sevilla do have greater depth and know how to dig in when it comes to tricky away games in the Europa League. 888Sport price a half time draw, full time Sevilla win at 23/5.

Head to Head

Excluding the first leg, the two have only ever met twice before. Both games came in the 2007 UEFA Champions League when Sevilla won both games 3-0 and 4-2 respectively.

  • Sevilla are winless in La Liga in their past six games, with their last win coming against Levante in January.
  • Prague’s season is on the verge of ending with the club looking set to win the Czech Premier League ahead of Plzen, regaining the crown they lost last season.
  • At home, Prague have won 10 and lost once out of 11 games, scoring 32 goals and conceding just eight, and in the Europa League they are still unbeaten in front of their own fans.
  • Sevilla’s away form in La Liga has been poor, winning three, drawing four and losing seven in total while in Europe, they did beat Lazio and Krasnodar in the Europa League group stages.
