Europa League Quarter Final Slavia Praha vs Chelsea
Slavia Praha vs Chelsea Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 0-1.

The quarter finals of the Europa League get underway as tournament favourites Chelsea travel to Prague to face a Slavia side who will undoubtedly cause them many headaches and cause the London club a lot of problems.

On paper this should be a good win for Chelsea but they – and the bookmakers – will know that this Slavia side are no pushovers and will give Chelsea everything they’ve got over both legs.

Naturally, the home side will come into this game as underdogs given the stature of their opponent but after their defeat of Sevilla in the last round, you’d be foolish to write them off.

Chelsea are favourites to win the Europa League this season and for good reason seeing as they’ve not lost a game yet in the competition. But with the race for the top four in the Premier League hotting up, this could be the perfect time for Slavia to face them.

Chelsea have managed to beat Malmo, Dynamo Kiev, Vidi, PAOK Salonika and BATE Borisov in the Europa League this season, only drawing away at Vidi in the group stages.

Slavia lost twice in the group stage against Bordeaux and Zenit – both away from home – but beat the duo at home as well as beating Copenhagen away, Genk away and Sevilla at home in the last round.

While most English fans would find it funny if Chelsea – or any other English team, for that matter – lost in Europe, it wouldn’t be very clever to bet against them in this tie so a 2-0 or 3-1 win for the Blues would be the way to go.

Betting Tips

Chelsea are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries little risk, but that doesn’t mean the odds for a specific score can’t be good. The London club could put in a professional performance and make the second leg easy for themselves, with this 3-1 bet one of the best bets you’ll find for the Europa League this week. 888sport have 3-1 to Chelsea at 12/1 and while that may seem like a good score to go with, it’s even better odds to side with too.

Chelsea to win seems like a strong bet to go with and to have them winning at both half time and full time may seem quite simple and very obvious, this is still a good bet considering how big favourites they are. You could easily see Chelsea getting an early goal or two in the first half, coast through the second half and perhaps get a late security goal to make life easier heading back to Stamford Bridge, with this bet rated at 6/4by 888sport.

Head to Head

This will be the very first meeting between Slavia and Chelsea throughout their history and also the first time that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri faces the Czech side too.

  • If Chelsea were to win this season’s edition of the Europa League, it would be their fifth European trophy along with the Europa League, Champions League, two Cup Winners’ Cups and the UEFA Supercup.
  • As for Slavia, this would be their very first piece of European silverware having never won any of UEFA’s competitions before. They’ve got 23 trophies in their history, but none have been won outside of the Czech Republic.
  • Other than the draw against Vidi, Chelsea have been immaculate away from home in the Europa League. They’ve won four out of the five games, scoring 11 goals and conceding three times.
  • Slavia, on the other hand, are also unbeaten at home in the Europa League but have won just three of their games, drawing the other two (the draws came against Genk and Copenhagen, wins against Bordeaux, Sevilla and Zenit).
