Europa League Sevilla vs Slavia Praha
Sevilla vs Slavia Prague UEFA Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 2-2.

The first legs of the Europa League last 16 are played this week although there is little doubt over the outcome of this tie, with La Liga side Sevilla looking like extreme favourites for this tie against Slavia Prague in a match that is not only intriguing but could give us a look at one of the frontrunners for the tournament.

This has the potential to be a big win for Sevilla who are looking on top form in Europe, but maybe Prague can capitalise on the Spanish side’s poor La Liga form and steal a shock win.

Prague will naturally go into this game as massive underdogs, despite knocking out Genk in the last round and sitting atop of the Fortuna Liga in the Czech Republic.

While Sevilla are hot favourites for this tie, they’ve struggled badly in recent times in La Liga, losing recently away at Huesca and failing to win in the league since January 20th.

Prague beat Genk to get into the last 16 following a group stage draw against Bordeaux, Zenit and Copenhagen.

The visitors knocked out Serie A side Lazio in the last round while they also got through the group stage without drawing a game, but did lose against Standard Liege and Krasnodar.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest.  A 3-0 triumph for home side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Sevilla are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that they’ll keep a clean sheet in the. Slavia will be intent on coming out of this game with at least something to work with in the second leg so maybe they’ll try to soak up pressure and hit Sevilla on the counter and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action. 888sport have it as 8/1 when combined with the Sevilla win.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. Home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game in favour of the Spaniards and the scoreline being level at the break before Sevilla pull away in the second half is a likely outcome, rated at 10/3 by 888sport.

Head to Head

These two sides met in the 2007 Champions League group stages, with Sevilla taking both games 3-0 and 4-2 respectively.

  • As much as Prague are underdogs for this game, it must be noted that they have only lost three times in the league this season so they come into this game with a bit of good form under their belts and capable of picking up important wins.
  • Sevilla have been falling down the La Liga table for some time now but while they sit in sixth place, they are only just three points off of going back into the Champions League places.
  • The Spaniards home form is significantly better than their away form, winning seven games out of a possible 12, scoring 22 goals and conceding just 12.
As for the visitors, they only lost twice away from home in the league and twice in the group stage of the Europa League.
