Salzburg will confirm their place in the knockout rounds of the Europa League if they pick up at least a point against RB Leipzig, who are still battling to qualify from Group B themselves.

Salzburg have dominated Europa League Group B so far, winning all four of their fixtures and scoring an impressive 14 goals in the process.

The Austrians are unbeaten in all competitions this season and warmed up for this match by thrashing TSV Hartberg 4-0 on Saturday afternoon in their domestic league.

It looks as if Marco Rose’s men are almost through, meaning it leaves RB Leipzig and Celtic to battle it out for second place in the group.

Leipzig and Celtic have each accumulated six points so far, though the Germans face the group whipping boys Rosenborg at home in their final match which may give them a slight advantage.

Ralf Rangnick’s side suffered their first Bundesliga defeat since August at the weekend, going down 1-0 to Wolfsburg.

Salzburg are in high spirits and know that a positive result will ensure their spot in the round of 32, so a 2-1 home win is on the cards.

Betting Tips

Leipzig have struggled on the road recently, winning just one of their last four away from home. That run has included a goalless draw at Augsburg and defeats at Celtic and Wolfsburg. Contrastingly, Salzburg haven’t lost at home since November 2016 and need just a point to qualify.

There have been plenty of early goals in matches in this Europa League group so far. Three of Salzburg’s four games have seen the deadlock broken within half an hour, while all of RB Leipzig’s encounters have had a goal by the 30-minute mark.

Head to Head

The first and only meeting between these two teams was the reverse fixture in Germany in September. Munas Dabbur and Amadou Haidara goals gave Salzburg a 2-0 lead after 22 minutes but Konrad Laimer and Yussuf Poulsen appeared to have saved a point for RB Leipzig with goals in the last 20 minutes of the match. However, Fredrik Gulbrandsen’s late winner saw the points return to Austria.

  • Munas Dabbur is the Europa League’s top scorer this season with five goals in his four appearances for Salzburg.
  • Salzburg have had 80 shots on goal in their four matches, with only Chelsea (88) having had more attempts.
  • RB Leipzig haven’t lost three away matches in a row since January 2017.
  • Konrad Laimer and Stefan Ilsanker both represented Salzburg before moving to RB Leipzig, making almost 150 appearances for the club between them.
