ROSENBORG vs CELTIC Europa League Predictions

Europa League Rosenborg vs Celtic

Thursday November 29th, 17:55

Both Celtic and Rosenborg have a shot at qualification the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds from Group B, but the Norwegian side know anything less than a win against the Scottish side will end their campaign.

So far Rosenborg have played the role of group whipping boys, losing all four games and conceding 12 goals in the process.

But amazingly they can still qualify for the next round as long as they win their next two games. At the very least their full attention will be on the Europa League after playing the last game of their league season. A season that ended with their 26th Eliteserien title.

Celtic own title tile looks in good shape as they extended their run to seven league wins with victory over Hamilton Academical.

However, they don’t have the luxury of unwanted distractions in order to focus on this game. Quite the opposite in fact, as they play Aberdeen three days later in the Scottish League Cup final.

That, coupled with a poor away record in Europe may seem slip up against the Norwegian champions, either drawing 1-1 or losing 1=0.

Betting Tips

The most recent meeting between the two sides was an incredibly tight affair with a late Leigh Griffiths goal proving the difference.

And Celtic drew a blank when they played there earlier this season in the Champions League qualifiers.

With Roseborg needing a win and Celtic’s other cup commitments, expect different performances from both sides to those they showed in their earlier bout.

Going away they will find it more difficult, and history is not in their favour. In 18 Europa League matches not once have Celtic won away.

While wins away outside of Glasgow are a rarity the quality in their side could see the grab a point, which might be valuable if results elsewhere go their way.

Head to Head

Rosenborg might be sick of the sight of Celtic after they meet on Thursday. It’ll be their fourth meeting in as many months, with Celtic beating them twice in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League in the summer.

They did the exact same the previous year, knocking them out by a 1-0 aggregate score line. In their nine meetings Rosenborg have only won once – A 2-0 home win in the Champions League group stage back in 2010.

  • Celtic have only conceded six goals in 13 Scottish Premiership games this season but conceded the same amount in their four Europa League matches.
  • Rosenborg are one of three teams yet to register a single point in the Europa League this season along with Turkish side Akhisarspor and F91 Dudelange from Luxembourg.
  • Rosenborg are on course to better their worst ever record in the group stages of a UEFA competition which currently stands at the solitary point they earned in the second group stages of the 1999/2000 Champions League.
