Score: 1-1.

Scottish champions Celtic face a testing trip to high-flying French side Rennes to start their Europa League group stage campaign, in a match which promises to be highly intriguing.

This is a testing Europa League group which also includes Italian giants Lazio and Romanian side Cluj – who eliminated Celtic from the Champions League.

Celtic have subsequently dropped down into the Europa League but eased past Swedish side AIK in the qualification process to ensure their group stage spot.

Neil Lennon’s side have won each of their opening four league games but it will be in European competition where they are truly tested and judged this campaign.

Rennes have made a flying start to their Ligue 1 campaign and have already defeated PSG, as they have collected nine points from their opening four league games.

The hosts will be favourites to make it four European wins out of four due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Sporting.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 2-0 triumph for the French outfit would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Rennes have conceded just three goals in their opening four matches in Ligue 1 – while Celtic have scored just six goals in their last eight matches in the group stage or beyond of European competition. A home win to nil is then among the best online betting odds of the matchday – and is priced at 39/19 with 10Bet.

Linked into the previous bet, the French side are not big scorers – just nine goals have gone in across their four league games to date, and this average of just over two is likely to continue here for this game. The visitors will be pinned back and likely suffer a low-scoring defeat. 10Bet price Rennes and under 2.5 goals at 14/5.

Head to Head

These sides have met twice before – in the group stage of the 2011/12 Europa League. The match in France was a 1-1 draw before Celtic ran out 3-1 victors in Glasgow.
