Score: 3-1.

Arsenal cross the English Channel for their Europa League Round of 16 first leg with Rennes, the first time the French side have faced Premier League opposition.

Predictions

Arsenal will be strong favourites to advance through this tie and into the quarter-finals, and indeed they are third favourites for the competition behind Chelsea and Napoli.

The Gunners saw off BATE Borisov 3-1 on aggregate and will see this as a favourable tie against ‘beatable’ opposition who are relatively close geographically.

However, the Gunners will be wary of their shock 1-0 defeat in their first leg match in Borisov and will be wary of a repeat this time around.

Rennes advanced to this stage having knocked out Real Betis, somewhat surprisingly, 6-4 on aggregate with the first leg in France a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The visitors will be favourites to take a decisive step towards the last eight despite not possessing home advantage, as they hold superior form and quality over Rennes.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 3-1 triumph for the North London side would appear a likely outcome from it.

The former Newcastle playmaker already has seven goals to his name this season for Rennes including two in home matches in the Europa League – against Jablonec and Real Betis. He is a set-piece expert and the Ligue 1 side’s designated penalty taker, with a spot kick for the hosts a real possibility against a Gunners defence which can often be rash. Ben Arfa is 7/2 anytime with 10Bet.
