Europa League Red Bull vs Club Brugge
Red Bull Salzburg vs Brugge

With Salzburg unbeaten in their domestic league and Brugge being inconsistent in the Jupiler League, this looks like a slam dunk for the Austrians but as the first leg showed, it’ll be anything but an easy game.

Salzburg’s loss against Brugge in the first leg was their first loss in any competition this season and they’ve only drawn twice at home, meaning they will be big favourites for this one.

Another reason why Salzburg will be favourites is due to the away form of their opponents, who have five wins, five draws and three losses in the league on the road, but did manage to put in a convincing performance away at Monaco in the Champions League earlier this season.

Salzburg came through their Europa League group untouched, beating Celtic, Rosenborg and sister club RB Leipzig, scoring 16 goals in the process.

Brugge, on the other hand, dropped down from the Champions League after finishing third in a tricky group alongside Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Monaco.

The home side will be favourites for this game due to their imperious home form but overcoming a 2-1 first leg loss won’t be easy, even against a team that struggles away from home. Salzburg can win here 2-1.

Betting Tips

Salzburg are favourites for this clash so a home win carries an air of certainty around it, while it is also highly likely that both teams will score. Brugge know that a draw will be enough to see them through so may look to hit Salzburg on the counter attack and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, due to the result earlier this month. Home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game in Salzburg’s favour but Brugge know that they don’t even need to win to advance, so may look to either hold out for a draw or sneak a counter attacking goal, with the draw on the night.

Head to Head

Excluding the first leg of this tie, these two sides have never met before, having never even played before Salzburg were taken over by Red Bull.

  • Salzburg won the Austrian League in 2017/2018 with relative ease and look to be doing the exact same thing this season, taking 48 points from their 18 league games, drawing just three times in the process.
  • While Salzburg are tearing up Austria, Brugge are trailing behind massively in the title race in Belgium. They current sit 11 points behind Genk at the top of the standings and will be hoping for a massive run in this competition to distract them.
  • Brugge’s Europa League campaign started when they dropped out of the Champions League, despite losing just twice and scoring 7 goals while conceding just 5.
  • Salzburg did score plenty of goals in the group stages (16) but did concede seven so while they are have the power up front to damage any team in this competition, they are suspect to a few goals in their own net.
