Europa League Olympiacos vs Dynamo Kyiv
Olympiacos vs Dynamo Kiev Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 2-2.

Two sides going well domestically meet in the Europa League and both Olympiacos and Dynamo Kiev will feel they can progress.

Both these sides will hold a belief that they can progress through to the round of 16, with both having already matched their European ambitions for the campaign.

Olympiacos did well to progress through a tough group which included Real Betis and Milan – who were eliminated – while Dynamo Kiev joined Rennes in the last 32 from their group.

Both sides currently sit second in their domestic leagues, with Olympiakos six points off PAOK while Dynamo trail Shakhtar Donetsk by seven points.

Dynamo Kiev picked up an impressive seven points from their three away group games, while Olympiakos made the same return from their three home matches.

The hosts will be slight favourites to edge out this first leg due to possessing home advantage, although the form and quality of the two sides are very similar.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 1-1 draw between the teams would appear a likely outcome from it.

Dynamo Kiev took the lead in all of their first five Europa League matches but they twice threw away a lead against Astana, lost a two-goal advantage against Jablonec and once against Rennes. The Ukrainian side could once again take the lead in this game only to be pegged back by Olympiacos – that sequence is 14/1 at 888Sport.

Head to Head

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly given the European exploits of both clubs in European competition, these two sides have never previously met before this season. The two played out a 1-1 draw in a friendly in 2014.

  • Olympiacos are undefeated in their last 13 matches across all competitions, dating back to a 1-0 defeat against Real Betis in the Europa League back in November.
  • Dynamo Kiev are currently in the midst of a winter break, having not played a competitive game since their 1-0 defeat against Jablonec in the Europa League back in early December.
  • The Ukrainian side reached the last 16 of this competition last season, crashing out 4-2 on aggregate to Lazio despite securing a 2-2 draw away in the first leg.
  • Olympiacos also fell at the last 16 stage but lost out to Besiktas in a 5-2 aggregate defeat.
