Genk vs Slavia Praha Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 1-4.

The Europa League continues this week with the second legs of the Round of 32 games, with the tie between Belgian side Genk and Czech giants Slavia Praha delicately balanced after an opening 0-0 draw in Prague. Both teams are currently top of their respective leagues.

This will be Genk’s 14th Europa League match of the campaign – they have lost just once and won nine of their opening 13 ties in the competition.

Philippe Clement’s side defeated Fola Esch, Lech Poznan and Brondby in playoff games before progressing through a group including Besiktas and Malmo.

Slavia’s progress has not been quite so lengthy as they entered at the Group Stage of this season’s competition after being eliminated in the Champions League by Dynamo Kiev.

The Czech side progressed through a tricky group including Zenit, FC Copenhagen and Bordeaux – and they have kept five clean sheets in seven games in this tournament.

The hosts will be favourites to continue their progress in this year’s competition due to possessing home advantage, but their form and quality is of a similar level to Slavia’s.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 2-1 triumph for the Belgian side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Only seven goals have gone in across Slavia’s seven Europa League matches to date – they have kept five clean sheets and they managed just four goals themselves in the group stages. Genk have three clean sheets in their last five home games in all competitions, so this is among the best online betting odds for this round of action.

Genk are unbeaten in their last 15 European home games and have won to nil in 10 of those, while Slavia lost two of their group stage away games to nil this campaign. It is likely that not only will this game be low scoring, but any goals that are scored are done so by the hosts.

Head to Head

The scoreless draw between the sides in Prague last week was the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

  • Slavia Praha are six points clear at the top of the Czech league table, with 17 wins and a draw from their opening 20 games.
  • Genk’s lead at the top of the Belgian top flight is even clearer, they are 11 points clear of Club Brugge with just two defeats from their opening 25 games.
  • Genk have scored four more and conceded three fewer than any other side in the Belgian top flight, while Slavia also have the strongest offensive and defensive stats in the Czech Republic.
  • Genk reached the quarter-finals of the competition in the 2016/17 campaign, before being edged out by Celta de Vigo 4-3 on aggregate.
