Eintracht vs Arsenal Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 0-3.

Last season’s runners-up Arsenal travel to last season’s beaten semi-finalists Frankfurt in a game that looks like it could throw up a lot of goals and a lot of excitement for neutrals in this early Europa League group stage game.

Despite losing a handful of players in the summer, Frankfurt still possess enough top players to cause a defensively terrible Arsenal a lot of problems.

Frankfurt come into this game off the back of a strong start to the season, losing just once so far in the Bundesliga away at a very strong RB Leipzig side.

Arsenal have impressed a few pundits and fans with their start to the season but recent results against Spurs and Liverpool still show that they have a lot of work to do when it comes to big game management.

The German side beat FC Flora, FC Vaduz and Racing Cub Strasbourg in their Europa League qualifiers, losing just once away at the French club Strasbourg.

These two have been drawn into Group F of the Europa League alongside Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes and Standard Liege.

The Gunners will probably be seen as favourites for this game and that comes as no shock, but a tight Arsenal win or a score draw could be the smart way to go in this round of Europa League fixtures.

Betting Tips

As much as people like to joke about Arsenal’s defence, there is no hiding from the face that they have two incredible forwards in Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, who can cause any defence problems. As long as they’re present, Arsenal have a good chance of getting a couple of goals. With that in mind, Arsenal to win 2-1 is distinctly possible and among the best online betting odds for the fixture. 888sport have Arsenal to win 2-1 as 8/1

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect for many different reasons. One, Frankfurt are more than capable of taking the lead into the half time break against an Arsenal side who haven’t figured out how to keep clean sheets, but it’s also likely that the North London club’s pace up front will cause Frankfurt danger in the second half before nicking a 2-1 win late on. That sequence is priced at 22/1 by 888sport.

Head to Head

This will be the first time the two clubs have met each other in any competitive fixture but that being said, the two do have a rich history against German and English clubs.

  • Most recently with Frankfurt, they were drawn against Chelsea in the Europa League semi-finals last season and took the Blues all the way to a penalty shootout, before being knocked out at Stamford Bridge.
  • Arsenal have a famous history against Bayern Munich given the fact they seemingly always drew them in the Champions League knockout rounds. Their most recent experience with German opposition is facing Koln in the Europa League in 2017/2018.
  • Frankfurt are unbeaten in five matches against English opposition in European competition, but have drawn three of them including the ties against Chelsea last season.
  • Arsenal have lost nine times in their last 19 games in Germany, with the last four games all resulting in defeats including two 5-1 routs at the hands of Bayern Munich.
