Dynamo Kyiv vs Chelsea Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 0-5.

The second legs of the Europa League knockout games are played this week although there is little doubt over the outcome of this tie, with Premier League side Chelsea holding a three-goal advantage from the first leg.

This should be an easy win for the Blues who made light work of Kiev in the first leg but if the Ukraine side get an early goal, you never know what will happen.

Kiev come into this game as heavy underdogs but they’ll be confident following their three consecutive wins in the Ukraine Premier Liga, where they haven’t lost since November.

Chelsea come into this off the back of a lucky draw at home to Wolves yet have been superb in the Europa League, meaning this really should be a cake walk for the London club.

Kiev managed to beat Greek side Olympiacos in the previous round to get to this stage while Chelsea comprehensively beat Malmo in the last round.
The visitors are yet to be beaten in the Europa League this season and have only drawn one game, away at Vidi in the group stages.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest and certainly no repeat of the first leg – a 2-0 triumph for Maurizio Sarri’s side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Every game that passes confirms Eden Hazard’s status as Chelsea’s main man and even though the Blues have a comfortable first leg lead, he’ll still be crucial. 888Sport price the Belgian at 37/20 to score anytime.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, due to the result earlier this month distorting the likelihood of any resistance from Kiev this time around. Home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game and the scoreline being level at the break before Chelsea pull away in the second half is a likely outcome, rated at 17/4 by 888sport.

Head to Head

Prior to the first leg, the two had only met twice in the Champions League with Chelsea winning one game 2-1 and the reverse fixture ending 0-0.

  • Kiev have lost three of their 14 home games against English opposition.
  • Kiev’s home form in the domestic league is fairly good with nine wins and two losses from the 11 games with zero draws, and they’ll need all of their firepower and defensively solidity to get through this game.
  • The Ukrainians have scored 23 goals at home this season while only conceding three so if they stand any chance of progression, then they really need to be on top, top form.
  • Chelsea’s away record in the Premier League is where their struggles have been with five losses from 14 games but they have scored 21 goals and conceded 21 on the road, winning eight out of 14.
