The match is over.
Score: 0-1.

The third round of the Europa League group stage takes place this midweek with one of the most finely balanced groups in play with pointless CSKA Moscow hosting Ferencvaros.

CSKA Moscow have had a dreadful start to their group stage campaign, suffering heavy defeats against both Ludogorets and Espanyol.

The Russian side – who have a high degree of European pedigree in recent years – may have been well tipped to progress through the group but now face an uphill struggle.

Ferencvaros earned an eye-catching draw at Espanyol in the first game week but suffered a heavy three-goal defeat at home to Ludogorets last time out.

This game will be crucial for either side in their hopes of progressing through the groups.

The hosts will be favourites to make it four European wins out of four due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Sporting.

The home side are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 4-0 triumph for the Russian side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Ferencvaros shipped three goals at home to Ludogorets last time out while CSKA have netted an impressive 16 goals in their last five outings. This is likely to be a big home win for the hosts as they reignite their campaign, with this among the best online betting odds for the matchday. 888Sport price over 3.5 goals at 9/5.

Ferencvaros have failed to score in either of their last two matches while CSKA have already secured six clean sheets this season. The hosts are big favourites to win and it is likely that they will do so whilst keeping a clean sheet. A home win to nil is 17/11 with 888Sport.

Head to Head

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly given the European exploits of both clubs in European competition, these two sides have never previously met before this season.

  • CSKA Moscow became the first club in Russia to win one of the European cup competitions, the UEFA Cup, after defeating Sporting CP in the final in Lisbon in 2005.
  • Ferencváros are best known internationally for winning the 1964–65 edition of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup after defeating Juventus 1–0 in Turin.
  • CSKA is the oldest football club in Russia and have won six Russian Premier League titles as well as record seven Russian Cups.
  • Ferencváros have won 30 Hungarian league titles but their triumph last season was only the second time they lifted the trophy since 2004.
