Europa League Club Brugge vs Red Bull
Club Brugge v Red Bull Salzburg Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 2-1.

Beaten Europa League semi-finalists from last year Red Bull Salzburg will be hoping to go further this time, but have to get past Club Brugge first.

Club Brugge are in the Europa League having dropped out of their Champions League group while Red Bull Salzburg are among the competition favourites.

The Belgian side won just one of their six Champions League group games – a 4-0 victory at Monaco – although they also recorded draws against Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.

Red Bull Salzburg won all six of their group games and look in ominous form in the competition, where they reached the semi-finals last season.

Salzburg were only eliminated in last season’s competition by a huge moment of controversy as Marseille scored a decisive goal from a corner which should not have been awarded.

The visitors will be favourites to take an early advantage in this tie despite not possessing home advantage, as they hold superior form and quality over Club Brugge.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 3-1 triumph for the Austrian side is not an unlikely outcome.

  • The Belgian side have not reached this stage of European competition when they reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League in 2015, when they lost to Dnipro.
  • Red Bull Salzburg have not lost any of their 37 matches across all competitions this season.
