Chelsea vs Dynamo Kyiv UEFA Europa League

The match is over.
Score: 3-0.

The first leg of the Europa League last 16 between Chelsea and Dynamo Kyiv is played this week although there is little doubt over the outcome of this tie, with the Premier League side heavy favourites for this game, especially with home advantage

While Dynamo are no pushovers, Chelsea will be expected to put them to one side at home and save themselves for a straight forward second leg in the Ukraine.

Chelsea are still yet to lose a game in the Europa League this season, only drawing once away to Vidi 2-2. Other than that game, they’ve been 100%.

Dynamo only lost once in the group stage – against Jabolnec at home – and drew against Astana and Jabolnec, but did win the rest of their games in the process to get out of their group.

In the last round Chelsea faced Swedish side Malmo and after a tricky first leg that saw them get out with a 2-1 win, a resounding 3-0 win made up for it in the second leg.

Dynamo drew away at Olympiakos in their knockout game and managed to sneak past the Greek side after a 1-0 home win.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest and certainly no repeat of their second leg against Malmo – a 3-1 triumph for Maurizio Sarri’s side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Chelsea are overwhelming favourites for this clash so a home win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that both teams will score. Dynamo will try to get something out of this game to take back to Kyiv with them and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action. 888sport have it as 47/20 when combined with the Chelsea win.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, due to the results these two sides have picked up in their respective competitions. Chelsea going into the break level wouldn’t be a surprise, especially if was a 1-1 score but it also wouldn’t be a surprise to see them push on and pull away with two goals late on when Kyiv are tiring, rated at 13/4 by 888sport.

Head to Head

  • In the Europa League this season, Chelsea have only conceded five goals and scored 17, winning all but one game and winning every game they’ve played in front of their own fans.
  • Dynamo have conceded nine goals in the competition this season and have scored just 13 goals, six of which came in three 2-2 draws.
  • Chelsea’s home record this season has been impressive with just one loss, four draws and nine wins from 14 Premier League games, conceding just nine goals across the campaign.
  • In the Ukrainian Premier Liga, Dynamo have won six out of their 10 games, losing two and conceding a nightly impressive seven goals in the process, scoring 15 too.
