The match is over.
Score: 2-0.

The Europa League group stage continues on Thursday with Scottish champions Celtic facing Romanian outfit Cluj for the third time this season and seeking revenge for their exit from the Champions League preliminary stage.

Celtic began their Europa League group stage campaign with a credible 1-1 draw at Rennes in France in a tricky group.

The Scottish champions have won each of their opening six league matches but were eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers, ironically by Cluj.

Since their famous victory in Glasgow, the Romanian side were subsequently knocked out of the Champions League by Slavia Prague and dropped down into the Europa League.

Dan Petrescu’s side got their group off to the perfect start by securing a 2-1 home victory over Lazio.

The hosts will be favourites to win this game due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Cluj.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable and indeed a 1-1 draw is the more probable outcome from it.

Betting Tips

This was the outcome when the two sides played each other earlier this season, with the two legs producing a combined total of nine goals! It is expected to be a similar outcome this time around so backing goals would be one of the best online betting odds of the round. 888Sport have BTTS at 13/10.

There was little to separate these two sides in their meetings last month – a draw in Romania was followed by a pulsating but narrow victory for Cluj in Glasgow. Both sides made a solid start to their group stage, meaning that neither will be under big pressure to triumph in this clash.888Sport have the draw at 3/1.

Head to Head

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly given the European exploits of both clubs in European competition, these two sides have never previously met before this season. The two meetings in the Champions League qualifiers ended 1-1 in Romania and a 4-3 away win in Glasgow.

  • Cluj are leaders of the Romanian top flight with 21 points from their opening 10 rounds of matches.
  • Celtic have won all eight domestic matches this campaign – six in the league and two in the League Cup.
  • Indeed, Celtic’s 4-3 loss at home to Cluj has been their only defeat in their last 19 matches.
  • Celtic’s best ever performance in this competition saw them reach the final in 2003, only to lose against FC Porto.
