Group leaders Chelsea will look to complete the double over BATE Borisov, who secured a domestic league title on the weekend.

Up to second in the Premier League and top of their Europa League group, Chelsea are flying high. Unbeaten in the league and cup, they have scored 13 goals in their last four matches and look set to qualify top of their group.

But BATE Borisov are on a high too, having wrapped up a domestic league title on Sunday. A 1-0 win over Nerman Grodno saw them lift a 13th consecutive Belarussian Premier League title.

They will look to continue the party when they host Chelsea on Thursday. With the title taken care of, they can look to focus fully on European endeavours.

While the score line appeared relatively close in the first leg, the gulf in the two sides looked too great in the first leg. Despite home advantage, the Blues should win by at least the same 3-1 margin.

The 22-year-old midfielder had arguably the best game of his career in the first meeting between Chelsea and BATE, scoring a hat-trick.

With that treble and his goal against Burnley in the following game, many have called for the Englishman to start regularly in the Premier League. But with a Ross Barkley, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic ahead of him in the pecking order, he did not start against Crystal Palace.

That means he will start on Thursday and star one of their main attacking threats. With the amount of shots he takes he may get another goal, even if BATE will be more wary of them.

Sarriball is easy on the eye, but has not been without fault defensively in recent games. As well as giving up a goal to Alyaksey Baha’s side in their first encounter, they also conceded to goals against Crystal Palace and Derby County in their recent games. BATE also tend to score in most of their away games, and having scored at Stamford Bridge, are likely to score in front of their own fans.

Chelsea 3-1 win over BATE Borisov was the first ever meeting between these two sides.

BATE’s 3-1 loss adds to their poor record in England, having lost 6-0 to Arsenal the season before. Howeverm they did beat Everton 2-1 at home in the Europa League back in 2009. Going the other way Chelsea have no such history, having never played in Belarus.

  • But they have not won any of their four home matches in European competition this season (3D 1L)
