Arsenal vs Rennes Europa League

Rennes came from a goal down to take control of last week’s first leg, netting three unanswered goals against the 10-man Arsenal side, to set up an intriguing second leg.

Arsenal may still be slight favourites to advance and went into this tie as third favourites to win the competition outright, behind only Chelsea and Napoli.
The Gunners saw off BATE Borisov 3-1 on aggregate and had seen this tie as winnable, but the energy and vibrancy of the hosts in France last week caught them aback.

Rennes advanced to this stage having knocked out Real Betis, somewhat surprisingly, 6-4 on aggregate with the first leg in France a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The hosts will be favourites to win on the night due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Rennes, but it may not be enough to qualify them for the next round.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 2-1 triumph for the North London side would appear a likely outcome from it, seeing Rennes progress on aggregate.

The former Newcastle playmaker already has seven goals to his name this season for Rennes including two in the Europa League – against Jablonec and Real Betis. He is a set-piece expert and the Ligue 1 side’s designated penalty taker, with a spot kick for the hosts a real possibility against a Gunners defence which can often be rash.
