The match is over.
Score: 2-1.

The European Championships 2020 qualification campaign gets underway this week with one of the favourites for the competition next year – Spain – playing host to outsiders Norway in their opening encounter.v

Spain have suffered a disappointing year following on from a chaotic World Cup as they also failed to reach the inaugural UEFA Nations League finals.

La Roja had secured an impressive 2-1 win away in England and 6-0 thrashing at home to Croatia before a 3-2 loss both away to the Croats and at home to England.

It had been chaotic in the dugout too with Julen Lopetegui sacked on the eve of the World Cup, with former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique now at the helm.

Norway have failed to qualify for a major tournament since the 2000 European Championships but enter this game with just one defeat in their last ten matches.

The hosts will be favourites to make a strong start to their qualification campaign due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Norway.

The home side are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 3-1 triumph for La Roja would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

There is a high likelihood that this game will contain four goals or more – as has been the case in four of Spain’s last five games. They eased to a 6-0 home win over Croatia and suffered a pulsating 2-3 loss at home to England, among some high-scoring games. In the past year Norway have been involved in high-scoring games too, such as a 4-1 win at home to Australia and 3-2 triumph in Iceland.

This is among the best online betting odds for this round of action because Spain have started games slowly in recent times before coming back later on. Their 1-0 win at home to Bosnia was only secured with a goal in the 78th minute while they also fought back from three goals down at home to England at half-time to lose by just a single goal, while they fell behind on three separate occasions in Croatia.

Head to Head

Spain ran out 3-0 victors in Norway the last time the two sides met, all the way back in November 2003. Norway did secure a memorable 1-0 triumph over Spain in Euro 2000, thanks to a strike from Steffen Iverson.

  • Spain have only won seven of their past 15 matches across all competitions in a run dating back to November 2017.
  • Norway have won eight of their last ten matches in all competitions across the past 12 months.
  • Now coached by Swede Lars Lagerback, the Scandinavian side have conceded just two goals in their past seven matches.
  • Spain’s recent games have been goal-packed, with 22 flying in across their last five outings.
