Spain have contrived to concede against Norway, Faroe Islands, Romania, Norway (again) and Sweden in their Euro 2020 qualification fixtures. Romania should feel confident of getting on the score sheet – but a home win, upsetting the top bookies, still looks beyond them.
Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos is among La Roja’s leading scorers in qualification – claiming four goals before the November double-header. He’s an aerial threat from set-pieces and a reliable penalty taker, making him one to consider in the anytime market.
Head to Head
These two nations have only ever played each other 16 times with Romania winning five games, Spain also winning five games but the draw being the most common result at six games resulting in even stevens.
The first meeting back in 1962 is also the largest margin of victory with Spain beating Romania 6-0 in the 1962 European Championships.
Romania haven’t beaten Spain since 2006 when they won 1-0 in a friendly despite Spain having the likes of Cesc Fabregas, David Villa, David Silva, Iker Casillas and Fernando Morientes starting that day.
Romania’s last victory before 2006 was in 1991 when they won 2-0 in an International friendly in Caceres.
That being said, these two have only played three times in this century, with a Spain win, a draw and a Romania win all taking place since the year 2000.
