The campaign for the Euro 2020 qualifiers gets underway this week with a resurgent Netherlands hopeful of getting their group off to a winning start with a home tie against outsiders Belarus.

Netherlands are riding the crest of a wave following a fallow period of five years and are in this summer’s UEFA Nations League finals.

Ronald Koeman’s side impressively topped a group including Germany and France to give themselves a shot at the prize next summer, having missed out on qualification for each of the last two major tournaments.

Group C is one of the trickier qualification groups as it also includes Germany and potential outsiders Northern Ireland, while Estonia complete the group.
Belarus are unbeaten in six games and have not conceded a goal in that run, although those fixtures have all come against the bottom ranked teams in Europe, with this a different task altogether.

The hosts will be favourites to continue their impressive run of form due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Belarus.

The home side are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 2-0 triumph for the Netherlands would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Belarus shouldn’t have the firepower to really trouble the Netherlands – they’ll go to Amsterdam sitting deep and trying to prevent too much damage being done, so the Dutch shouldn’t sully their clean sheet, and this is among the best online betting odds for this round of action. A Netherlands win to nil is 8/13 at Unibet.

Belarus have kept a clean sheet in each of their past six games while each of the last two home games for the Netherlands have seen a clean sheet. The visitors are expected to sit very deep in this clash and a low-scoring affair is likely. 888Sport price under 2.5 goals at 33/20.

Head to Head

These nations have met six times in total with the Dutch winning five of those and Belarus pulling off a surprise 2-1 triumph in 2007. The Netherlands won 4-1 and 3-1 respectively during the qualification process for the 2018 World Cup.

  • Belarus have kept six successive clean sheets in a run in which they have scored ten goals – but only five in their last five.
  • The Netherlands have lost just two of their last 15 matches in all competitions, a run which has included nine victories.
  • Belarus have tasted defeat in just one of their last seven away games – a 2-0 loss in Finland – in a run which has included four wins.
  • The Netherlands have won seven of their last eight home games, with a 0-1 home defeat against England in a March 2018 final the one exception.
