The match is over.
Score: 2-1.

Italy know that it is imperative to maintain the good start their Euro 2020 qualification campaign and nothing less than a win over Bosnia-Herzegovina will satisfy the fans and the media.

Predictions

On paper, it should be an easy win for the Italy but you can never be too sure, with Bosnia’s danger men always likely to cause any team any problems.

The Azzurri come into this one as strong favourites due to home advantage and the fact that their last win in an international fixture before this set of games was a 6-0 win against Liechtenstein.

Bosnia’s recent form has been inconsistent, with a draw against Greece, a win against Armenia and a loss against Spain in their last three games.

Italy have beaten Liechtenstein, the United States and Finland in their last three games, scoring nine goals without conceding a single goal in those games.

A win for Italy would see them carry on their great run of form, which has seen them go unbeaten since September 2018 with four wins and two draws since that loss in the Nations League against Portugal.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest. After their 6-0 win against Liechtenstein, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Italy calm it down to a 3-1 win or a 2-0 victory.

Betting Tips

While Italy are strong favourites for this game, the odds aren’t too amazing or too long for a good bet- 888sport have it as 3/1 when looking at an Italy win with both teams scoring. Bosnia have the firepower to cause trouble – mainly in the form of Edin Dzeko – but while you’d imagine they’d get a goal, a win would be out of reach with this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action.

These are semi-long odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. Home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game and the Azzurri pulling through for the win is a likely outcome, rated at 19/5 by 888sport.

Statistics

Head to Head

These two have only ever met once before, a 2-1 Bosnia win in 1996 with Elvir Bolic and Hasan Salihamidzic scoring the goals for the home side in a famous win.

Stats

  • Chelsea legends Gianfranco Zola and Roberto Di Matteo played in that game in 1996, with Enrico Chiesa – father of Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa – scoring the only goal for Italy on that occasion.
  • Three of the Bosnia squad ply their trade in Serie A, with Edin Dzeko at Roma, Miralem Pjanic at Juventus and Ervin Zukanovic at Genoa.
  • The Bosnia manager is Roberto Prosinecki, the former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Portsmouth star who played in England at around the same time that Roberto Mancini, the current manager of the Italians, played on loan at Leicester.
  • Mancini and Prosinecki have faced off as managers before when Mancini was at Galatasaray and Prosinecki was at Kayserispor in Turkey, with Galatasaray coming out on top as 4-2 winners courtesy of goals from Didier Drogba, Wesley Sneijder and Burak Yilmaz.
