The match is over.
Score: 0-1.

Group H remains finely balanced as France and Iceland meet, with both nations harbouring hopes of knocking Turkey off top spot.

Predictions

World Cup holders France go into the October internationals in second place in the group, level on points behind Turkey and three clear of their Friday opponents.

But with home advantage Iceland have reason to feel quietly confident of taking the scalp of Les Bleus, even though history is against the island nation.

Indeed, Iceland have never beaten France, who have won 10 of their 14 meetings, including an emphatic 4-0 victory in March in Paris.

Local history is on Iceland’s side, though, as their last nine European Championship qualifiers have seen Our Boys post a record of seven wins and two draws.

France play Turkey following the trip to Iceland so it’s no exaggeration to suggest this is a make-or-break pair of games for Didier Deschamps and his squad. Turkey also have a tricky tie with Albania, so the complexion of the group could be about to change.

Iceland will be keen to avenge their hammering seven months earlier too, but there’s a big gap in quality to make up and it may be too big. But a draw – 2-2 – keeps things interesting.

Betting Tips

There hasn’t been a single draw in Group H. How much longer can that go on? And as the qualification process gets down to the decisive rounds, tension is bound to creep in and make the games that bit tighter. Iceland can toil to a draw here, but will need to score. 888Sport price the draw and BTTS at 11/2.

France, as world champions, should be seeing off mid-level teams like Iceland, but you can’t count out Iceland either – they made their name getting results that seemed beyond them, much to the chagrin of the top bookies. A draw would require a battling performance, and this bet takes out the margin of error. Iceland-draw double chance is 39/20 at 888Sport.
