With Italy looking to make a return to international tournaments, they know that if they want to make it to Euro 2020, they’ll have to put in an impressive performance against Greece, a side that may prove tough to beat.

On paper, this should be an easy win for Italy but as they’ve shown us over the past few years, this Italy side may not be as strong as they’ve been in years gone by.

Greece have been very inconsistent as of late, failing to put two consecutive wins together in their last 15 matches.

Italy are unbeaten in their last six games and haven’t lost since losing to Portugal back in September 2018.

Italy’s wins came against Liechtenstein, Finland, the USA and Poland while they managed draws against Portugal and Ukraine.

Greece’s last win was against Liechtenstein in March of this year, winning six of their last 15 games, losing seven in the process.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest. 2-0 or even 3-1 for Italy is what may seem most likely.

Betting Tips

Italy are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that both teams will score – 888sport have it as 1/9 when combined with the Azzurri win. Greece may get a consolation goal somewhere near the end and while this particular bet isn’t glamorous, it may be the most realistic of the weekend’s action.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. Home advantage should significantly shift the momentum in this game and the scoreline being level at the break before Roberto Mancini’s Italy pull away in the second half is a likely outcome, with their talent and experience shining through, and this bet is rated at 19/5 by 888sport.

Head To Head

In nine matches, Italy have won nine times while Greece have won just once and three draws being played out as well.

  • The solitary Greece win came in 1972 when they beat the World Cup runners up 2-1 at home.
  • Italy’s biggest ever win in this fixture was 4-0 in 1934 for a World Cup qualifying match.
  • The top scorer in this fixture is Giuseppe Meazza – the father of the San Siro – and former Inter Milan right back Giuseppe Bergomi, both on the mammoth tally of two.
  • While this fixture hasn’t conjured up magic in the past – and it doesn’t seem likely to in the near future – it may still be worth a bet due to the fact that if anyone in international football can cause an upset, we all know – as we found out in 2004 – it can be the Greeks.
