Estonia vs Netherlands Euro 2020 qualifiers

The match is over.
Score: 0-4.

After failing to pick up a single point and scoring just one goal in their three qualifying matches, Estonia won’t like the prospect of facing a Netherlands side who know they can jump over Germany in the group with a hefty win.

This game has the potential to be a rout in Holland’s favour with Estonia coming into this game off the back of an 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Germany.

Estonia will obviously be underdogs for this game and for good reason, having failed to win any game in the group stage so far and conceding 12 goals from three games.

Holland are favourites for this game but come into it off the back of their own loss against Germany, but did reach the final of the UEFA Nations League in the summer.

Estonia lost to Northern Ireland twice and Germany in the group so far but have beaten Finland and Gibraltar in friendlies, picking up a draw against Iceland in another friendly.

Holland’s summer exploits in the UEFA Nations League meant that they recorded one loss and one win in the summer, but know that after a loss and win in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, this game is huge for them.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be a big a margin as many suggest. A 3-0 triumph for Ronald Koeman’s side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

The Dutch are favourites for this clash so an away win carries almost no risk at all while it is also highly likely that they’ll get a few goals of their own in this one. The Dutch side will know that a comprehensive win here would make people take notice of them and fear them after years of mediocrity, and this is among the best online betting odds for this round of action. 888sport have a 3-0 win as 17/4.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, because it’s entirely likely that Holland could have a second half flurry in this one. Home advantage could help Estonia weather any Dutch storms and it could take Holland the 45 minutes to figure out how to break down a tough low block and the scoreline being level at the break before the Netherlands pull away in the second half is a likely outcome, rated at 32/20 by 888sport.

Head to Head

Estonia and Holland have met four times in the past, with Holland winning three of those games and a draw somehow being played out in 2013.

  • That draw was the last meeting between the two nations, with a 2-2 game happening in Estonia, even with Robin Van Persie and Arjen Robben scoring for Louis Van Gaal’s side that day.
  • The first meeting came in 2001 when the Netherlands won 4-1, once again under the stewardship of Louis Van Gaal, and with the likes of Patrick Kluivert and Ruud Van Nistelrooy getting on the score sheet.
  • The following match was the highest winning margin in this fixture, with goals from Bolo Zenden, Phillip Cocu, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and a brace from Mark Van Bommel giving the Dutch a 5-0 win.
  • The final meeting back in 2013 was a 3-0 win for Holland, with Rafa Van Der Vaart, Robin Van Persie and Ruben Schaken all getting a goal each.
