The match is over.
Score: 0-6.

The qualification process for next summer’s European Championships continues this week as Gareth Southgate takes his England side to basement side Bulgaria in the hope of securing qualification.

Bulgaria have had a rotten qualification process by taking just two points from their five group games to date and their hopes of progression to next year’s tournament hanging by a thread.

Krasimir Balakov’s side have lost each of their last four matches and are without a win in any of their last nine matches.

By contrast, England have won all four group games to date and are in pole position to top the group and secure their serene process to next summer’s tournament.

Gareth Southgate’s side went into the October internationals with a 100% record in the group and a victory here would virtually assure them of their advancement.

The visitors will be favourites to continue their winning streak despite not possessing home advantage, as they hold superior form and quality over Bulgaria.

The away side are favourites to win this game and it should be particularly comfortable – a 4-1 triumph for the Three Lions would appear a likely outcome from it.

Head to Head

England have won the last three meetings to nil – including a 4-0 home win over Bulgaria in September. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick, including two penalties. Bulgaria have never beaten England in nine attempts and scored just one goal in that run.

  • Bulgaria have not won any of their last nine matches – a run stretching back to October 2018, when they had won four games in a row.
  • England have won eight of their last 11 matches across all competitions.
  • England have scored 19 goals across their four qualification matches to date, but shipped three goals at home to Kosovo.
  • Two England players have scored hat-tricks in this campaign – Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling – while Ross Barkley and Jadon Sancho have both netted braces.
